Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum St. Ives. The Tate Gallery occupies a spectacular site overlooking Porthmeor Beach. A four storey building, the Tate provides 5 gallery spaces in which to display distinct groups of work. St. Ives became the haunt of artists following a visit by Turner in the 1880s. Sickert and Whistler worked here and many others followed in their wake. Ben Nicholson and Peter Lanyon began a new wave this century and Bernard Leach started a pottery at Higher Stennack. Under the auspices of The Tate Gallery, the Barbara Hepworth Museum celebrates the work of Dame Barbara Hepworth through a gallery, archives and delightful garden setting.
Tintagel Castle and Old Post Office Famous ruins of medieval castle and Celtic settlement probably dating from the Dark Ages. With a cliff top locality, this castle has long been associated with King Arthur; Merlin's Sea Cave is located below the castle. The Old Post Office has been restored by the National Trust in the fashion of 50 years ago but was originally a 14th century manor house.
Tolverne Smugglers Cottage Philleigh. This picturesque 500 year old thatched smugglers cottage and beach were used by American Forces for D-Day. A small exhibition commemorates the wartime events.
